Halal on Saturday, and revamped venue

Been a touch chilly out there this morning, even in Wollongong. It can snow in the mountains just south of here. Last Saturday was coolish too, which explains the lack of patrons outside Samaras. Inside was a different story.

Chris T and I had extra halal lamb kebabs this time: they are so good. See also NBN, election, great feed (29 March).

I saw in Crown Street on the way to Corrimal Street and Samaras that the refurbished Glasshouse was open. This is the back story:

Run-down Wollongong nightclub the Glasshouse looks set to be relaunched as Mr Crown in the new year, with the operators revealing plans to build a deck overlooking Crown Street…

The Glasshouse has been closed for much of 2014, and before that had significantly dropped from its former position as the late-night venue of choice for young revellers.

In 2009 it was the second most violent venue in NSW with 36 incidents listed on the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing’s list of the state’s most violent nightspots…

The renaming and refurbishment of the Glasshouse comes after a boom in Wollongong’s smaller bars and restaurants during the past two years, that has driven punters away from the old, cavernous, beer barn-style venues.

By the way, no Wollongong venues were on the “most violent” list this year.

Looking good. Worth a daytime visit, even for someone not in the target demographic! See Mr Crown on Facebook.

Music was playing Saturday lunchtime, but I didn’t go in this time. That shot is from their Facebook page.
